Hector Alonzo Benavides
Hector was born September 2, 1952 in Laredo, Texas, the youngest of three children.
Hector's cousin brought his art in to our gallery in 1992. It was the work of someone truly obsessive and we were definately interested in meeting him. His cousin passed this message along to Hector, he got a bus ticket, and directly came up to meet us.
I will always remember Hector in his suit and tie, extending his hand saying, "Hello Mr. & Mrs. Webb. I am Hector Alonzo Benavides, the most obsessive person you will ever meet." Truer words could not be spoken.
Hector's work was always ball point ink pens using a straight ruler and he wove his lines like fabric. They are beautiful pieces.
When his Mother was living, she used to stop Hector from going through the paper with his obsessive lines. When she passed, Hector's world began to crumble as he depended on his Mother's love and care.
Hector finally went and lived on the family ranch and continued to create art up until his passing in 1999.
Bruce wrote a wonderful piece on Hector which was printed in Raw Vision, issue #27, Summer 1999.
Here are some beautiful pieces from our collection.
