Carl Block
Carl was one of the first people we met when we moved to Waxahachie in 1987. I didn't quite know what to think of his strong personality as first, but he quickly grew on me to become one of my favorite friends.
Carl has a great laid back attitude and healthy perspective on how he views others and situations. This strong character point shines through in Carl's pottery too.
When Carl grew up his family frequently vacationed to Mexico, thus his strong color background added to his own strong color sensibilities. He attended Norh Texas State University in Denton and studied pottery with a lean to raku and stoneware work.
Obviously Carl does terra cotta and has his own bold design ways. All mirroring his own fun and bold self.
Carl brought us the first face jug he made in 1989 and hls work never stoped amazing me with his new ideas. He was familiar with Southern face jug traditions, so combined with his love for folk pottery and his bold color/design sense; he started making face jugs.
Carl truly enjoys making pottery, almost as much as playing music, kayaking, fishing, or spending time with the family. Nice to have your own thing and escape though.........

We sell Carl's jugs just about as fast as he brings them in. These are the newest ones to the gallery. click to enlarge and see details.
