Mark Cole Greene
1955 - 2005
We sure miss Mark. We met him back in 1992 when his
father, A.C. Greene brought his work to our gallery.
We had already heard about Mark and his work from our
friends, Tom and Dottie. They had judged a Cleburne
MHMR art show and awarded Mark the grand prize. They
knew we would love the work and we surely did when A.C.
brought the pieces.
Mark's stuff had this great imaginary
cartoon feeling to it and his colors were out of this
world. The way he drew popcorn like clouds and that
sun with huge rays was his signature.
We became friends with Mark and spent
the rest of his years getting together every couple
of months for hamburgers or mexican food. Mark loved
a good hamburger and LOVED shrimp.
We also shared a love for old music, record
collecting, and hitting the junk stores and flea markets.
We had such a great sense of humor, style,
and confidence. Hardly a week went by when he was living
that he didn't call just to say hi, let you know he
was thinking of you, or just tell you a tale. And he
could spin the tales, some true and some stretched,
but always good, just like his art.
We miss MCG so much, but he is buried
in the Waxahachie Cemetry and we walk past his grave
just about every day. That and having all of his great
art here, keeps us thinking of Mark and all the good
times.
