Margaret's Grocery

Well if you haven't been to Vicksburg, Mississippi to visit Margaret and Rev. Dennis, then make plans to do so right away. For you who have been you will notice the new paint job. We have been many times over the years and LOVE both of them.

The story is that Margaret was a widow twice before Rev. Dennis came along. Margaret saw her first husband fall underneath a truck. After the first tragedy, Margaret found love again. She and the second husband built a roadside grocery serving Northern Vicksburg and passers-by. Then tragedy stuck again. As they built the grocery with living quarters in the back, Margaret was in the living quarters when she heard a ruckus and struggle. As she came into the grocery store, a robber turned to shoot. Margaret's husband jumped in front of her and took the bullet.

Margaret is an incredibly strong woman and continued the grocery business alone, until a friend sent Rev. Dennis out, thinking the two would make a good match. Rev. Dennis was quickly smitten with Margaret and set out to woo her. Margaret enjoyed the visits from Rev. Dennis, but having lost two husbands previously, was hesitant to enter into matrimony again. Finally, Rev. Dennis made Margaret an offer she couldn't refuse. Rev. Dennis said, "If you will marry me, I will turn this grocery store into something that people will come from everywhere to see". Such a pledge of devotion, Margaret could not let pass her by.

Well, Margaret's grocery has been some 18 years in the making. It is an amazing place with color, religious devotion, Masonic devotion (Bruce loves this!), and all kinds of Rev. Dennis-made baubles and religious fixtures. Margaret and Rev. Dennis are two of the nicest and welcoming people we have ever met. They love this place and the visitors it brings. The grocery store is not much of a grocery store anymore. I think Rev. Dennis took over the place quite awhile back. A visit for anyone is a must! The inspiration from these two and their environment is something that we just have to get in our systems at least once a year.

Now these images were taken by friend George, whom we took to Margaret's Grocery. He took his in-laws by to meet the Rev. and Margaret in November of last year. You who have been, will notice the color difference and you who haven't, let's just say some pink was added. Margaret claims to have added this new color this past Summer. This place is better than ever and we can't wait to get there!!!!
