1912-1988

John W. Banks was born in Seguin, Texas and at the age of 4 his family moved to San Antonio where we would reside the rest of his life.
John was known to always draw in his Big Red Chief tablet from a young age.

Mr. Banks married Earlie Smith in 1963 and when he suffered an illness in 1978, we began drawing full time to fill his days. Earlie took his work to the laundromat and put it up for others to enjoy. Our friend Kay was one of the people who visited the laundromat and searched out Mr. Banks to collect his work.
We had the great opportunity of selling Kay’s collection starting in the late 1990’s. John Banks drawings are true memory pieces from his life and history. They are so genuine and well illustrated. The pieces have always made us smile.
